Chesham is the home of our head office and is where the Flying Start journey began. In 2009, Sian Goodspeed, a Chesham-based teacher, decided to quit her day job and set up as a private tutor. To find out more about the Flying Start story, check out our ‘about us’ page.

Our Chesham office has been upgraded a number of times over the past decade and is now located in a dedicated building, conveniently located in the town centre, close to buses, trains and car parks. As well as being our main office and operations centre, we have four classrooms, equipped with interactive whiteboards, laptops, learning games, books and a wonderful team of tutors.

In fact, our location is so handy, our centre so wonderful and our Eleven Plus, maths and English tuition so highly regarded that pupils travel to us from far and wide – we have pupils from as far away as Milton Keynes, Luton, Watford and Slough as well as many more from nearer towns and villages such as Amersham, Berkhamsted, Tring, Hemel Hempstead, Wendover and more…

What’s on offer

Tuition with a difference

We offer a range of small group and one-to-one courses at our Chesham centre for students aged five to sixteen. Subjects covered include maths and English tuition and support with exams such as the Eleven Plus (11+), SATs and GCSEs.

At Flying Start, we have a different approach to tuition: we help our students to learn smarter! Using techniques from neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), our team of specialist tutors and teaching assistants teach our students how to get into a positive mindset and how to overcome any barriers to learning such as anxiety or negative beliefs that may be holding them back. These are techniques that students can apply to all areas of their lives.

Above all, we believe learning should be fun! So, at Flying Start Tuition you won’t find any long faces or tempter tantrums – in fact, many of our pupils enjoy our lessons so much they don’t want to leave!

Our Customer Service Department is open from 11.30am – 6.30pm from Monday to Thursday and from 9.00am – 2.30pm on Saturdays. We are closed on Fridays. Come and say hello!

My daughter received her 11+ result today and we are thrilled that she managed to achieve above the required score. She was not tutored but we did use your ‘Mocks in a Box’ at home and she also attended one of your mock exam days. The contents of the box were an enormous help, as was the mock exam day – she gained a lot of confidence knowing what might be expected of her.
