From the moment you first make contact with us, you will be greeted by a member of our friendly team. All our staff have a passion for education and wholeheartedly share our company values. Flying Start courses are taught by high calibre, experienced tutors who have been selected for their enthusiasm, commitment and excellent teaching skills. Many of our tutors are qualified teachers; all are educated to at least degree level and all have many years of teaching experience. We also have a team of fully trained classroom assistants to support group lessons so that every child receives the individual attention they deserve. We are very proud of our comprehensive training and appraisal programme and supportive working environment.

Aliss first started working for Flying Start in 2013. Her favourite thing about working for Flying Start are the strong company values and reading the pupil feedback forms at the end of the year. She enjoys going to the gym, travelling and cooking, when she’s not running aroud after her one year old daughter. Aliss is also studying a degree in Astronomy and Planetary science in her spare time.
Director of Finance & IT
Alistair quit his career in IT to join Flying Start as a director in 2014. His favourite thing about the company is the positive atmosphere and the buzz in the centre when lessons are running. In his spare time, Alistair enjoys whitewater kayaking, mountain biking and car restoration. He owns a shiny red classic mini that he has been restoring for the past 15 years.
Chris previously taught at the prestigious Chigwell School before beginning a career working as a professional actor. Whilst acting, Chris has maintained a successful career as a tutor, teaching students from the ages of 6-18. Chris joined Flying Start in Jan 2020 and has designed a course of workshops based on 10 years of GCSE English tuition.
Daniel previously taught at The Beacon School before moving to Cambodia to teach in the Hope International School, Phnom Penh. For the past two years Daniel has been with Flying Start teaching primary English, maths and 11+. Daniel has a passion for the environment, and runs a local refill service to reduce plastic waste, as well as a love of wildlife and learning languages.
Customer Care Manager
Debbie has been part of the Flying Start Team for over 10 years. She comes from a customer service background and is pleased to be the Customer Care Manager – you’ll often find her at the centre when you visit! She loves the variety in the role and the opportunity to meet new people on a regular basis.
Gavin has been with Flying Start Tuition since 2020, mainly teaching 1:1 lessons, 11+ courses and some admin and marketing work. He’s been a teacher for over 20 years, including teaching in Japan and working in Further and Higher Education. Gavin enjoys the interaction with the children during lessons and when he has time, writes, sketches, presents a radio show and loves participating in many sports.
Hilary has been tutoring with Flying Start since 2011. Before that she was a class teacher, an assistant head, deputy headteacher and acting headteacher. She also worked for the county as a literacy teacher consultant and a moderator during the summer term. In her spare time she enjoys walking, singing, water colour painting, tap dancing and having fun! Her favourite thing about working for Flying Start is watching children develop in confidence and skills during the year.
Juhi has been a tutor at Flying Start for 5 years and before that was a Primary School teacher. Her favourite thing about working for Flying Start is centring her attention on her pupils and the holistic approach used, as well as her understanding and approachable team members. She likes to sing and colour when she has some spare time. Juhi has recently joined a local junior school as a STEM governor.
Kaitlin has worked closely with Flying Start since its early days, writing resources, tutoring and managing its pilot franchise. Helping our students to achieve their goals, both academic and personal, is a wonderful feeling and it’s why she loves working with Flying Start. Her own goal currently is to learn Swedish – something which is proving easier said than done! When she’s not busy trying to tell her ‘å’s from her ‘ö’s, she likes to read, bake and swim.
Mel has been a tutor at Flying Start for 7 years and before that was a Headteacher. Her favourite thing about working for Flying Start is making the pupils feel confident in their learning, building their self esteem and sharing their successes. She loves singing and has performed with her choir at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival! Mel is has consistently been based at our Little Chalfont centre teaching a variety of term-time and holiday courses.
Noni has been working as a Teaching Assistant with Flying Start Tuition for four years. Before this, she was a Learning Support Assistant at a local primary school for 15 years. Noni enjoys supporting the pupils and the tutors at Flying Start and finds this very rewarding. In her spare time, Noni loves following Formula 1, delving into space exploration and learning about plants. She also enjoys going for long walks.
Ruth has been a tutor at Flying Start for 7 years and loves working with colleagues here, as well as meeting the pupils and helping them to improve their skills. At the moment she focuses on the English half of the Tuition Plus programme run by the Aylesbury Vale Housing Trust and 11+ teaching in Chesham on Thursdays. She comes from a village in the Yorkshire Dales, loves singing and reading, as well as walking her rescue Yorkshire Terrier.
Sam has been tutoring for Flying Start for 11 years! She has tutored a variety of subjects over that time including 11+, Secondary Maths and our Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust pupils as part of our tuition plus project that provides subsidised tuition to lower income families. Her favourite thing about working for Flying Start is helping children and working with other Flying start team members.
Founder and Managing Director
Before creating Flying Start, Sian was a primary school teacher for twelve years. She is also an author for educational publisher, Schofield and Sims and has written many 11+ books. Sian’s favourite thing about Flying Start is seeing the positive impact on so many children and being surrounded by an inspiring team of colleagues. In her spare time, Sian enjoys relaxing at home with her family, going out for walks or bike rides and having a family movie night in. Sian loves to sing and is in two choirs and an acapella quartet!
