About

Sian Goodspeed, a primary school teacher from Chesham, established Flying Start Tuition following the birth of her daughter in 2007. Having returned to teaching after her maternity leave, Sian had found combining motherhood and school life too much of a juggling act and decided to make a career move. She wanted a job that would better combine her love of teaching with her family life and so Flying Start Tuition was born.

Sian has over fourteen years’ teaching experience across the primary age range, in both the state and private sectors, including seven years in one of the country’s leading independent schools, where she was also a member of the senior management team. Throughout her career, she has taught a diverse range of children, including those with challenging behaviour and learning difficulties, as well as the extremely able.

Sian has been providing private tuition for more than five years. In that time, she has helped many children through the 11+ and independent school exams as well as supporting many more improve their literacy and maths skills. At the heart of her approach is the desire to build her pupils’ confidence and to help them to realise what they are capable of achieving. This is a desire shared by all the staff at Flying Start Tuition.

Over the past three years, Flying Start has gone from strength to strength and we now have nine members of staff based at our tuition centre in Chesham. Each one of our tutors is a qualified teacher and all teaching staff are trained the Flying Start way, incorporating a mixture of computer-based activities and traditional teaching methods, along with specific techniques taken from NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) to boost each pupil’s confidence and enhance learning.
